Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister 45 days after this. This was followed by a direct contest between Indian-origin Rishi Sunak and Speaker of the House of Commons Benny Mordant for the post of Prime Minister and leader of the ruling Conservative Party.

In this, 193 MPs supported Rishi, and Benny Morton announced that he would withdraw from the race for the post of Prime Minister. Following this, Rishi, who was chosen as the leader of the Conservative Party, met King Charles III. In this case, King Charles officially announced that he will appoint Rishi Sunak as the 57th Prime Minister of the country.
